Brainstorming Meetings - Walk this WAY!
For the last few weeks we have started a new policy, that is very odd, different and strange for a group of web developers. Instead of squeezing into a conference room, or hovering around whiteboards, or projectors. We have taken our story/brainstorming meetings outdoors.
It is a well known fact that when we humans are moving and walking around, we are able to think clearer and retain/listen better as well. (Hearsay)
The real reason for the idea, I need to get off my butt and need to get some exercise!
After meeting outside for the last three weeks, I have been pleasantly surprised with the results.
- Focus
I am able to fully focus on the stories and features we are discussing.
- Clarity
I am able to deliver the stories of the features, both the user and technical sides better.
- Attention
Our team members are more attentive and seem to understand the concepts faster.
- Quality
This has led to a solid increase in quality of the delivery of our features.
I have noticed a lot less e-mails, and a lot less confusion in general, during the development process. This has led to an solid increase in performance and productivity. But this walking and working is becoming addictive. A team member sent me this photo and said it would be a great fit for the Jack Russell Office!
